The Arson Prevention Bureau was established in 1991 to spearhead and co-ordinate a national campaign to reduce arson, raise awareness of the problem and bring together public and private sector organisations sharing these objectives. The Bureau has been supported by insurers through the Association of British Insurers, and received some funding from the Home Office in the initial years. Established in 1984, BAFE is a non-profit making organization dedicated to improving standards in fire protection. It is supported, amongst others, by government, trading standards and the Heath and Safety Executive. Over the years local authority health and safety and procurement professionals, with the support of the Health and Safety Executive, have developed the Contractor Health and Safety assessment scheme (CHAS). The scheme is available for use by any public and private sector organizations to use when shortlisting contractors, suppliers and consultants (companies) who apply to work for them. It provides information about the health and safety part of their application. Companies apply to join the scheme so everyone knows they meet acceptable standards of health and safety compliance. Clients from both the public and private sectors are users of the scheme and our database.

Constructionline is the UK's register of pre-qualified local and national construction and construction-related contractors and consultants. Owned and endorsed by the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (formerly the DTI), Constructionline is a contributor to the Rethinking Construction initiative.
