iPhone combusts aboard plane | Dec 2011
An Apple iPhone has spontaneously combusted aboard a passenger plane in Australia.
Regional airliner Regional Express reported that the phone starting emitting a “significant amount of dense smoke, accompanied by a red glow”.
The incident occurred shortly after flight ZL319 from Lismore – south of Brisbane – landed in Sydney. The flight attendant swiftly extinguished the red glow, and no passengers or crew were harmed.
The phone has been passed to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau for analysis, but pictures reveal that the phone has shattered, warped, and the casing exploded with the pressure of the combustion.
This story follows just last week that Apple are recalling all first-generation iPod Nano’s.
