Access Control

If you are looking for protection from uncontrolled access, Alert Fire & Security can deliver the perfect solution, tailored to your exact requirements to provide you with all the security, convenience and control you need.
Our state-of-the-art video door entry and access control systems offer flexible and functional control with a wide choice of solutions from a single door to hundreds of doors across multiple sites.
Both key cards and locks can be programmed to allow or restrict access to different parts of the building. The information stored in the key card can be transferred to a computer to provide precise audit trail information about where and when each lock has been used, including the date, time and whether access was allowed or denied.
However our systems are not just designed with security in mind, all our systems provide benefits in many other areas including :
- Health & Safety
- Environmental Benefits
- Fire Roll Call
- Restricted access for shift workers and those who are on holiday or absent from work
- Time & Attendance
- CCTV and Alarm Integration
- Staff Location Information
- Reduction in costs
To ensure that you benefit from the above features and have the correct level of security for your business, contact us today for a free risk assessment and no obligation survey.
Why Use Access Control?
Access control enables you to control who has access to your building.
Locks and keys also allow you to secure your building, but when keys are lost or stolen, the inconvenience and expense of changing locks and re-issuing keys can be considerable. Keys may also be copied, creating even more security risks.

All businesses, whether small, medium or large, have assets that need to be protected from theft. There is also the issue of protecting staff and their property.
It is common in buildings that are secured by locks and keys for doors to be left unlocked all day. This opens up the possibility of opportunist theft and malicious damage.
Electronic access control provides the most efficient and convenient way of securing your building and assets. Installing an access control system means that you will never have to change a lock again. Tokens are issued to allow access through the controlled doors and are easily barred from the system if they are lost, stolen or just not returned by someone who leaves your company. Barred tokens will not allow access through the controlled doors.
Once an access control system is installed, all doors controlled by the system will automatically lock when the door is closed. Anyone without a PIN or access token is unable to enter. If necessary, doors may be set to unlock during a designated time frame.
Access control can also offer flexible control over users' access rights. For example, all staff can gain access through the main door of a building, but access to internal areas may be restricted to those who have a specific need to be there. Access may also be restricted by time, only granting access to particular users at certain times of day or night.
All our Access Control & Video Door Entry Systems can be designed to meet the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) access regulations. For further information please visit the DDA website www.direct.gov.uk
Which Access Control Systems?
Alert Fire & Security offer two types of access control systems and various Biometric solutions:
1. Standalone Access Control

This type of system may be used to control access on one or many independent doors in a building. Access is gained by using a numeric code, or PIN with a keypad, or by presenting a proximity or magstripe token, depending on which type of reader is fitted.
These systems are programmed at each door. If tokens need to be barred or codes changed, this action must be completed at every door on the system.
Typical applications
- Small business premises
- Sports clubs
- Storage units
- Any small or medium sized site requiring access control
Standalone systems are great for smaller sites with a relatively small number of users, token management is simple, and the system can be extended easily as your requirements change.
2. PC Based System
Our advanced PC based access control solution will give you control over who has access to your building. Our PC based access control system provides access on hundreds of doors for up to 10,000 users. The software allows you to manage this in a logical and intuitive way.
The Alert Fire & Security PC based access control system is one of the most economical access control systems on the market. There are no hidden costs such as per seat licences; the software may be loaded on all the PC's in a building if required. The standard version of our software, which includes all the features most organisations will need, is free.
Perhaps even more importantly your investment is future proofed. Adding additional doors in your building as your needs change is straightforward and cost effective. In addition, all new innovations to the system are designed to be backward compatible. Software upgrades are free.
The Alert Fire & Security access control system offers the key requirements of a PC based access control system.
- Central control
- Flexible access permissions
- Reporting
The software gives you full control over the system from your desk. Any instructions given to the software are immediately updated at all the doors. Adding users, barring users and changing users' access permissions are all done from the PC quickly and easily.
If your company has several buildings, access to all of them can still be controlled from one location. The PC based access control system can control many buildings in different locations using TCP/IP across your existing network.
Access permissions may be set individually or by department. This makes setting up different permissions for different groups of people quick and straightforward. Some areas may be restricted to only a certain group of users. Shift patterns may be set for departments, and those permissions are allocated instantly when a new user card is issued.
An events screen allows viewing of 'real time' events as they are happening. Monitor who is where in a building, if doors have been left propped open, or if a door has been forced. In addition to the 'live' information, reports can easily be created from the software.
The PC based software can be loaded onto one or many PC's in your organisation. Different administrative rights may be given to each user. Perhaps the Security Manager would be the only person who could alter users' access permissions, but it may be convenient for your receptionist to be able to issue cards for visitors. Up to five PC's on a network may administer the system simultaneously.
Alert Fire & Security PC Based Access Control has even more to offer!
All of the above are the essentials of a good PC based access control system. Alert Fire & Security access control systems offer even more functionality.
Alarm Integration
Nominate those who have permission to unset and set the intruder alarm. When they present their token to the door, the alarm will unset prior to the door unlocking. If the alarm is set, only these nominated people will be able to access the building. This easy-to-use feature helps prevent false alarms.
SMS/E-Mail Messaging
Through its easy-to-use 'Triggers and Actions' function, the system can send SMS messages or e-mails when a specified trigger happens. Get an SMS message sent to your mobile if a door is forced; have an e-mail sent to you when staff arrive late!
View IP Camera Images
See who is at the door, before you let them in. View what is happening throughout your building.
Control Lighting and Heating
Turn lights on when you arrive in the morning; turn them off when the alarm is set at night - easy with 'Triggers and Actions'.
Hands Free
Hands free access control enables any door equipped with PROXIMITY readers to achieve hands free ranges of up to 2.5m.

Biometric Fingerprint Readers
Our range of fingerprint verification systems will meet with the most stringent requirements.
From a simple fingerprint only, to a fingerprint and pin number or alternatively integrate the fingerprint reader into our Access Control and Video Door Entry Systems.
Biometric technology measures the physical characteristics of an individual to create a unique identifier which is electronically stored and retrieved to verify the claimed identity of an individual. It checks the current fingerprint scan against an enrolled-user database. Anyone attempting to gain access and whose fingerprint isn’t stored in the database, will not be able to gain access without the assistance of a member of staff.
Guaranteeing secure and safe access couldn’t be made easier.
